Passive Voice
The passive voice is used when the focus is on the action or the result, not on who does the action. A voz passiva é usada quando o foco está na ação ou no resultado, e não em quem faz a ação.
Overview
In the passive voice, the object of the active sentence becomes the subject. Na voz passiva, o objeto da frase ativa vira o sujeito.Active → PassiveThey built the house. → The house was built. Eles construíram a casa. → A casa foi construída.
Form (Be + Past Participle)
Structure: subject + be (in the correct tense) + past participle (+ by + agent) Estrutura: sujeito + be (no tempo correto) + particípio passado (+ por + agente)is / was / has been / will beThe email was sent by the manager. O e-mail foi enviado pelo gerente.The work will be finished tomorrow. O trabalho será terminado amanhã.
When to Use Passive
We use the passive voice when the agent is unknown, obvious, or not important. Usamos a voz passiva quando o agente é desconhecido, óbvio ou não é importante.My bike was stolen. Minha bicicleta foi roubada.The road is being repaired. A estrada está sendo consertada.
Passive in Different Tenses
